How to Purchase Medical Marijuana

We do not sell cannabis products at our clinic, however, Florida has a vast number of marijuana dispensaries for you to choose from, all with many locations across Central Florida. Cannabis dispensaries request payment by cash or the CanPay app. Purchases made using a credit or debit card are subject to an additional fee.

Cannabis comes in many routes, each with their own benefit. At Marijuana Express MD, we’ll help you understand the effects and proper dosage of each route so you know what type is best for your condition.

Which Cannabis Route Is Best for You?

Most people assume smoking is the only way to intake marijuana, and that is far from the truth. Medical marijuana has come a long way since becoming legal in Florida, and it takes many forms.

Each route comes with its own set of benefits and possible drawbacks depending on your preferences. Some do not cause any psychoactive effects while others provide a fast and quick sense of relief vs. a delayed effect.

At Marijuana Express MD, we’ll help you understand each route, their most common onset and duration of effects, and which one might be best for you given your condition.

Smoking

Burning cannabis leaves and inhaling the smoke. It allows for quick absorption and a rapid onset of effects which tend to last several hours.

Vaping

Vaping is a secondary inhalation method and can be done using dry herb or cannabis concentrates. It is discreet and portable and has an immediate onset of effects.

Edibles

Cannabis-infused foods and beverages such as gummies and chocolate. There is a delayed onset of effects, and they typically last longer, sometimes up to eight hours.

Orals

Tinctures or oils administered under the tongue for rapid absorption. There is a quicker onset of effects than edibles and a longer duration than traditional smoking.

Topicals

Creams, oils, and patches applied directly to the skin and used for localized relief of pain, soreness, or inflammation without any psychoactive effects.

Sublinguals

Lower dosage sprays and dissolvable strips that are placed under the tongue for quick absorption. The effect is immediate and the duration is meant to be swift.

FAQs

Your card lasts for one year.

Cannabis amounts are broken into the route being used. Each person is allowed to purchase 2.5 ounces of smoking cannabis over a 35-day period with a possession limit of 4 ounces. Limits may be increased in specific instances. The limits for edibles, orals, and other routes vary, and at Marijuana Express, we’ll be sure to help you understand the variances before you leave.

No, home cultivation of marijuana is not permitted in Florida for medical marijuana patients.

Some states with medical marijuana reciprocity may allow you to use your Florida card, but you must comply with that state’s laws. Check with the state you are visiting for their specific rules.

Marijuana is a federally illegal drug, so you should not travel with it, even to states where marijuana is legalized medicinally or recreationally.

A caregiver is an individual designated by the qualifying patient to purchase, possess, and administer medical marijuana on their behalf. Your caregiver must submit an application, pay a $75 registration fee to the state, and depending on their relation to the patient, must submit to a background check. A caregiver card also lasts for one year and must be renewed annually.

Yes, but their suitability depends on the condition being treated, the patient’s preferences, and doctor recommendations.

The effects can vary greatly depending on how the cannabis is consumed and from person to person. Inhalation (smoking and vaping) provides a rapid onset but shorter duration of effects, while oral ingestion has a slower onset with a longer duration.

All methods of cannabis use are safe when used legally and under the care of a doctor. The perceived safety varies based on the individual and how they personally react. Topical and transdermal methods typically do not produce psychoactive effects, so they do not interrupt daily activities.

Dosing is different across methods and from person to person. For instance, when switching from inhalation to edibles, the same dose can have a different potency or effect due to differences in how the body processes THC.

Start with a low dose, especially with methods like edibles where effects are delayed, and increase gradually as needed. Talk to your prescribing doctor when curious about increasing your dosage.

This depends on the nature and severity of the pain and the patient’s personal preferences. Inhaled cannabis can provide rapid relief, while edibles or transdermal patches can provide longer-lasting effects. A healthcare provider can offer the best guidance.
